River Patterns 1. Oil.
The first of a series of paintings of swirling twigs and branches in the
river after rain, this painting focused on the movement and reflected light
from water and natural forms.
This painting was a finalist in the St
Sebastian’s Spring Art Exhibition 2008.

Artist’s
Statement
My works are based on what I see around me and aim to
express the relationships between natural, organic forms and an emotional
response to them. Most of my paintings
start from a formal drawing, but gradually evolve into more abstract works
that aim to resolve the dynamism between colour,
form and composition.

The intricate patterning in the landscape of the
Queensland outback, which at
first sight may seem
empty and formless is the focus of this painting.
It was awarded First Prize in the Live Life Villages
Art Prize, 2008.
